Chesapeake is 10,000 lbs lighter! This month
marks our second anniversary at Tidewater Bariatrics. Our 354
patients have lost 10,854 lbs. In other words, in the last 24
months these patients have lost 5.5 tons of weight. Yes, taken
collectively these individuals have lost
nearly 11,000 pounds of fat, that is a loss of 38.5 million
calories. The engaged and compliant individuals have lost the
most; 10 patients have lost over 100 lbs, and 56 patients have
lost over 50 lbs.
Action brings results. These 354 individuals have become students
of healthy eating habits and have been taught the discipline
and required skills to maintain their weight loss in a supportive
and highly structured program. Each of these patients have taken
on the challenge of being accountable for their food consumption,
their exercise output and have proven that counting calories
does matter.
Obesity is a complex behavioral and physiological disease. It
takes highly structured intervention to make changes that will
have a lifelong impact. I started Tidewater Bariatrics because
I knew that obesity was treatable but that it was not treatable
in the typical outpatient model. As such, Tidewater Bariatrics
is a practice dedicated to providing our patients with the greatest
chance of success. The program is intense—weekly commitments
for visits, daily record keeping, midweek phone calls, and a
commitment to learning new skills.
Happy anniversary TWB patients! Your hard work and acceptance
of this challenge have shown that obesity is treatable. We can
stop this epidemic. As one of my patients told me last week,
having lost 25 lbs in 6 weeks, “You work!”
